Technical Information

This unit forms part of the vehicle’s rear passenger compartment interior lighting system.

Function: Interior illumination / passenger reading light

Mounting Location: Roof / headliner

Vehicle Area: Rear passenger compartment

Operation: Interior courtesy / reading illumination

Manufacturer: Volkswagen OE

The lamp installs into the corresponding factory roof/headliner opening and connects to the vehicle’s interior lighting wiring.

Interior Lighting System Information

Passenger versions of the VW Transporter can have several roof-mounted lighting units depending on:

• Vehicle specification

• Shuttle / Caravelle / Multivan configuration

• Seating arrangement

• Roof lining type

• Model year

• Interior lighting package

• Electrical equipment specification

The rear roof lamps provide additional illumination for passengers seated behind the front row.

7E5947291 / 7H5947105 Information

7E5947291 is associated with later Transporter T6 passenger-compartment interior lighting.

7H5947105 is an earlier T5/T5.1 interior lamp number family.

⚠️ There are several suffix versions of 7H5947105, including variants such as 7H5947105E, so the complete number and physical design should always be compared before assuming direct interchangeability.

Common Reasons for Replacement

• Interior light no longer working

• Lamp housing damaged

• Switch damaged or intermittent

• Lens damaged or missing

• Electrical contacts worn

• Roof lamp missing after headliner replacement

• Caravelle / Shuttle interior restoration

• Passenger conversion requiring original VW lighting

• Cosmetic damage to existing lamp

Important Diagnostic Information

If the lamp does not operate, check the following before replacing it:

• Bulb / lighting element

• Electrical connector

• Interior lighting fuse

• Wiring to the roof lamp

• Door-triggered interior lighting operation

• Lamp switch / contacts

• Vehicle interior-lighting control system

A non-working roof light is not always caused by the lamp assembly itself.

Installation

Designed to install into the corresponding factory VW roof/headliner mounting position.

Before installation, compare:

• Electrical connector

• Housing shape

• Mounting clips

• Overall dimensions

• Switch arrangement

• Complete OE number

Take care when removing or installing the lamp because older roof trim and plastic retaining clips can become brittle.

Programming / Coding

No programming or coding is normally required when replacing the lamp with the correct equivalent unit.

This is an interior lighting component connected to the existing vehicle wiring system.

Important Compatibility Note

⚠️ Please match the part number and electrical connector with your original light before ordering.

VW Transporter interior lighting varies between Panel Van, Kombi, Shuttle, Caravelle and Multivan configurations.

The presence of a T5.1 or T6 body does not automatically guarantee fitment.

For 7H5947105, please also check any suffix letters printed after the base number, as different versions exist.

Condition

Genuine used Volkswagen part.

May have normal age-related marks, light scratches or signs of previous installation.

Please inspect the listing photographs carefully for the exact condition, colour, electrical connector, mounting points and items included.
